Sandra R. Hughes is a governance consultant for boards and senior management of nonprofits or, as she prefers to call them, community benefits organizations (CBOs).
Sandy has worked with hundreds of boards and thousands of board members - presenting numerous workshops, conducting seminars and facilitating discussions with individual boards on a variety of subjects. She has written articles on diverse issues in the governance of CBOs.
Prior to her work as a consultant and facilitator, Sandy held a variety of senior management positions with CBOs, foundations, and universities, including BoardSource (Senior Governance Consultant); the United States Rowing Association (CEO); the American Bar Association (Associate Executive Director); George Williams College (Director of Admissions and Vice President for Development); the Levi Strauss Foundation (Western Regional Manager); the Christian Science Center (Director of Training and Development); and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (Dean of Admissions).
Sandy received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland. She also holds a Master’s Degree and a Doctorate from Northern Illinois University.

- Help your board understand its roles, with a special emphasis on the board's fundraising responsibility.
