SPOTLIGHT: JOEL SAWYER

Foundation is 'Building a Better Community'

Joel Sawyer is the 2010 Professional Advisor of the Year, an honor awarded for his support of the Community Foundation’s mission and vision.

Upon learning of his selection, he said, “I work with and admire so many professional advisors in Fort Worth, many of whom have mentored me over the years. I am honored to have my name added to this distinguished list of advisors.”

When Sawyer was asked to describe the Community Foundation in four words, he simply said: “Building a better community.”

Sawyer, pictured with 2011 PA of the Year Harry Bartel (right), was introduced to the Community Foundation 15 years ago when he was serving on a non-profit board. That agency was a beneficiary of the Community Foundation.

“In more recent years I have had the pleasure to work alongside Nancy Jones with clients that have chosen to establish donor advised funds. These funds are perfectly suited for the needs of most clients,” he said.

Sawyer, who serves and holds leadership positions on a number of local boards and is Managing Shareholder at Bakutis, McCully & Sawyer, P.C., is married to Julie Wilson Sawyer. They have two daughters, Samantha and Sarah.

Sawyer introduced Bartel as the 2011 Professional Advisor of the Year during the Foundation's Annual Luncheon.

The Board and staff of the Community Foundation of North Texas deeply appreciates the many professional advisors who recommend the Community Foundation to their clients and who trust the Community Foundation to serve their clients’ philanthropic goals.
